10DLC Registration and A2P Compliance

Enjoy Fast, Easy, and Fully Compliant Two-Way Messaging

Text messaging should be the fastest, easiest way to reach your audience — but navigating 10-digit long code (10DLC) registration alone can slow you down. By handling your 10DLC registration and helping your brand comply with Application-to-Person (A2P) regulations, TrueDialog helps get your SMS program up and running fast.

How TrueDialog Makes Registration Easier

A2P 10DLC registration can be a long, complicated process that requires you to gather and submit detailed business and campaign data, and often wait weeks for approval. Plus, there’s the added stress of making sure you’re taking all of the necessary steps to meet ever-changing A2P requirements (and facing hefty fines if you don’t).

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way. TrueDialog developed automated 10DLC registration to help streamline this experience. With faster approvals and ongoing support, our platform delivers everything you need to start engaging your audience in two-way messaging faster than ever.

Accelerate Messaging with Carrier-Verified Numbers

With spam and text-based phishing scams on the rise, mobile carriers are taking extra steps to protect their customers. To help reduce unsolicited messages and help legitimate organizations reach their audiences faster, carriers developed A2P 10DLC.

Registering a 10DLC with The Campaign Registry reassures carriers that your brand has been thoroughly vetted and verified, which means your messages are less likely to be filtered and more likely to reach recipients immediately. Additionally, 10DLC numbers have much higher throughput than standard personal phone numbers, allowing you to send significantly more messages per minute.

Combining 10DLC registration with TrueDialog’s direct carrier connections means you can easily send hundreds or thousands of texts per minute without triggering spam filters or raising red flags.

Boost Consumer Trust and Engagement

Today, people are much more likely to engage with a text when they know it comes from a legitimate source. With a 10DLC, you can text your audience using a 10-digit number with a local area code, which adds an extra layer of credibility to your messaging. Not only are carriers more likely to pass your texts through to their users, but texts from familiar-looking numbers drive higher open rates and more responses.

In other words, 10DLC texting makes it easier to earn your audience’s trust, cultivate long-term relationships, and keep your contacts engaged.

Stay Compliant with Built-In Consent Management

A2P SMS regulations require businesses to register their 10-digit number, or risk message blocking, fines, account suspension, and other legal concerns. Fortunately, TrueDialog simplifies the registration process, helping you stay compliant.

Additionally, the platform offers other built-in consent features to ensure your organization complies with other industry regulations. For example, with TrueDialog, you’ll have access to single- or double-opt-in consent and an easy opt-out process for hassle-free unsubscribes. The platform protects your brand with activity records and audit trails so you can prove you’re adhering to industry requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Application-to-person (A2P) messaging is a type of texting where businesses use a platform like TrueDialog to send messages to hundreds, thousands, or even millions of individual recipients. It’s different from person-to-person (P2P) messaging, which is how people text each other from their personal numbers.

Organizations using A2P messaging are required to comply with SMS industry regulations developed to protect consumers from spam and other unsolicited messages. However, using A2P also enables businesses to send many more messages (and do so faster and more reliably) than they could from a personal phone number.

A 10-digit long code (10DLC) is a dedicated number that’s been approved by mobile carriers for business texting purposes. Using a registered 10DLC allows you to send higher volumes of messages while reducing your chances of triggering carrier spam filters.

All businesses that want to send SMS and MMS messages from a 10-digit phone number in the U.S. must register their 10DLC with The Campaign Registry.

Text messages sent from unregistered numbers are heavily filtered by carriers, so your messages may be flagged and blocked. Additionally, sending marketing messages or high-volume campaigns from a non-approved number violates industry regulations. Doing so could lead to significant fines, legal action, and, in some cases, a complete suspension of your phone number. In other words, it’s not a wise business decision.

A 10DLC is a local 10-digit phone number that’s been vetted by carriers for business and marketing purposes, whereas a 1-800 number is a toll-free number with a different verification process. Although brands can register their 1-800 numbers for A2P use, texting from a 10DLC number with a local area code often feels more personal for your audience.

Short codes are five- or six-digit numbers with a different registration process than 10DLC numbers. They’re also best for high-volume, time-sensitive messages (such as urgent notifications, two-factor authentication codes, or text-to-join campaigns), while 10DLC numbers are more ideal for two-way conversations (such as customer support or personalized updates). Many brands use both a 10DLC and a short code, and TrueDialog supports both.

(In fact, as a partner of the U.S. Short Code Registry, TrueDialog can provision dedicated and branded short codes for your brand.)

TrueDialog simplifies 10DLC registration so you and your team don’t have to navigate confusing processes or interpret carrier policies on your own. By automating your registration, supporting you through campaign submissions, providing access to built-in compliance tools, and offering ongoing guidance on regulatory requirements, we help eliminate the headaches associated with A2P 10DLC. This way, you can stress less and focus on what you do best: connecting with your audience.
